Hi Everyone! I hope the start of your year has been everything you were hoping for and you are feeling energized and inspired. Our studio has been humming with activity as we work on not one but two collections simultaneously. I know, I know! But sometimes, when inspiration strikes, you just have to go with it. Here are a few things inspiring our work right now.
HAND PAINTED FABRICS
All of our fabrics are currently printed by hand, but we have been looking at other mediums for creating handmade fabrics, particularly, hand-painting.
Hand-painted designs by costume fabric painters Jeff Fender Studio.
Hand-painted fabrics by UK textile artist Melissa White.
The traditional Japanese fabric painting technique of Hikizome or "brush-dyeing".
MONOCHROMATIC ROOMS
There are two sides two every story and, at Paola Melendez Casa, we are equally obsessed with print as we are with color. I particularly love the look of a bold monochromatic room.
ROTHKO PAINTINGS
Some of my all-time favorite works of art are Mark Rothko's famous color field paintings. Like many abstract expressionists from his time, Rothko used shapes and colors to evoke specific emotions from the viewer. If you have ever had the pleasure of seeing Rothko's paintings in person, you can attest to their powerful nature. I particularly love the work displayed at the
Rothko Chapel in Houston, Texas.
I can't wait to share more of what we have going on in the studio as our collections begin to take shape.
Until then, stay inspired!
xxPaola
